How to Use Meaning to Motivate Your Employees
“Many people assume they can never find meaning in their work,” says author and business leader Scott Mautz. In Mautz’s book Make It Matter: How Managers Can Motivate by Creating Meaning, he explains that meaning at work is possible. It’s desirable. And
it’s necessary to do work that matters.
Meaning has been gaining in importance for employees today. In a DeVry study, 71 percent of Millennials said meaningful work is the top career factor that defines success. I don’t believe this need is unique to Millennials; they are merely stating a human need we all have: We all want meaning and meaningful work in our daily experience.
It is the growing importance of meaning as a motivator that excites us, and inspired our January Engaginar. We’re honored to be hosting Scott Mautz to explore what meaning in our work really is.
